What is Nano Banana 2.1?

Nano Banana 2.1 is the October 2026 update to Nano Banana 2, served here on the official Gemini channel since 8 October. The listed changes: more accurate text and infographic layout, faces that hold across repeated edits, and fewer tiling artifacts in wide 2K and 4K images.

Our eight test runs backed the first two and found no seams in a 4K wide shot. It failed at 8:1: the banner split into panels and the headline came out unreadable.

Every image below was generated on 8 October 2026, first take, with the exact prompt shown.

Nano Banana 2.1 infographic titled HOW A HEAT PUMP WORKS with four correctly labeled stages

Text and infographics, right at 1K

We reran the poster, infographic and Korean exhibition prompts from the Nano Banana Pro page unchanged. All three were correct: the NIGHT MARKET headline and its em-dash subtitle, all four stages of the heat-pump cycle with a caption under each, and every syllable block of 「고요한 흙」. Each took 24 to 28 seconds at 1K. One caveat: on the Korean poster it added an exhibition date and a gallery name we never asked for — with the year set to 2024. Read what it writes, not just what you asked for.

Nano Banana 2.1 second-round edit: the same woman in a yellow raincoat on a rainy neon-lit street at night

The same face through two rounds of edits

We generated a portrait, then changed her clothes and moved her to a fish market, then moved that result to a rainy street at night. Across both rounds the face, the short auburn curls, the freckles and the small silver hoop stayed the same person — the thing that usually drifts first when you edit an edit. It was looser about the rest: the second round kept the coffee cup from round one without being told to, and it ignored "looks over her shoulder" and had her face the camera.

Nano Banana 2.1 4K 16:9 cinematic shot of a lighthouse keeper walking a foggy cliff path at dawn

4K wide shots without repeated tiles

Wide, high-resolution frames are where image models tend to repeat a texture or leave a visible join, and this is the fix the update claims. Our one 4K 16:9 test — a lighthouse keeper on a cliff path at dawn — came back at 5504×3072 in 45 seconds, and at full size we found no tiling: the fog, cliffs and grass change continuously across the frame. One image is not a benchmark, but it is the result we got.

Nano Banana 2.1 failed 8:1 harbour banner with visible panel seams and an unreadable headline

Where it failed: an 8:1 banner

We asked for a continuous Mediterranean harbour panorama with SUMMER IN LIGURIA set in the left third. The 5856×704 result has clear vertical joins where the scene restarts, and the headline is a smear of letter-like shapes. On the Nano Banana 2 page, the same 8:1 format came back as one continuous panorama in our August tests. For extreme banners, use Nano Banana 2; use 2.1 at ordinary ratios.

The rest of what we ran

Four more first-take outputs from the same 8 October 2026 batch, with the exact prompts. Across all eight runs, generation took 24 to 45 seconds, with a median of 31.

Nano Banana 2.1 gig poster with the headline NIGHT MARKET over a steaming street-food griddle at night
Prompt1K · 3:4 · 24s — headline and subtitle both correct

Bold typographic gig poster: the headline 'NIGHT MARKET' in heavy condensed sans-serif across the top third, a small subtitle 'SAT 21:00 — PIER 7' beneath it, and below that a photographic scene of steam rising off a street-food griddle at night, warm amber lamps against deep teal shadows, confident editorial layout with generous margins.

Nano Banana 2.1 Korean ceramics exhibition poster with the title 고요한 흙 set vertically
Prompt1K · 2:3 · 24s — title correct; it added a date and venue we did not ask for

Minimal exhibition poster for a ceramics show in Seoul: large Korean title 「고요한 흙」 set vertically on the left, English subtitle 'QUIET CLAY — SEOUL CERAMICS WEEK' at the bottom edge, a single unglazed stoneware vessel lit by raking window light against a warm grey wall, restrained gallery typography.

Nano Banana 2.1 natural-light portrait of a woman with short curly auburn hair by a window
Prompt2K · 4:5 · 37s — the starting image for the two-round edit

Natural-light portrait of a woman in her early thirties with short curly auburn hair, light freckles and a small silver hoop in her left ear, wearing a grey knit sweater, sitting by a window in a quiet apartment, soft overcast light, realistic skin texture, 85mm lens.

Nano Banana 2.1 first-round edit: the same woman in a yellow raincoat at a morning fish market
Prompt2K · 4:5 · 33s — edit round one, with the portrait above as the reference

Same woman, same face, same short curly auburn hair, freckles and silver hoop earring. Now she wears a yellow raincoat and stands at a busy fish market stall in the morning, holding a paper cup of coffee, documentary photo style.

Who Nano Banana 2.1 is for

Pick it when the image has words in it, or when you will edit the same person more than once.

  • Anyone making posters, menus and infographics

Headlines, subtitles and diagram labels came back correctly spelled at 1K in under 30 seconds. Proofread the result — it can add lines you did not ask for.

  • People editing the same person repeatedly

Change the outfit, then the location, then the light: in our two-round test the face stayed the same person each time.

  • Wide and high-resolution work

A 4K tier at 130 credits, and a 16:9 4K test with no repeated tiles.

  • Not for: 8:1 and 1:8 banners

Our 8:1 test split into panels with an unreadable headline. Nano Banana 2 handled that format in our earlier tests.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What changed from Nano Banana 2 to 2.1?

Three things are listed for the update: more accurate text and infographic layout, faces that stay consistent across repeated edits, and fewer tiling artifacts in wide 2K and 4K images. In our tests the text and face claims held up, and a 4K 16:9 image showed no tiling. Here it runs on the official Gemini channel.

2

Is Nano Banana 2.1 better than Nano Banana 2 for everything?

No. Our 8:1 banner on 2.1 split into three panels with visible joins and an unreadable headline, while Nano Banana 2 rendered the same format as one continuous panorama in our earlier tests. Use Nano Banana 2 for 8:1 and 1:8 banners; it is also cheaper at every tier.

3

How accurate is the text in its images?

In our three text tests — an English gig poster, a four-stage infographic and a Korean exhibition poster — every requested string was correctly spelled. The catch is unrequested text: on the Korean poster it added a date and a gallery name, with the year set to 2024. Proofread the whole image, not only the words you asked for.

4

Does it keep the same person across edits?

In our two-round test, yes: the face, hair, freckles and earring stayed the same through a change of outfit and location and then a change to a rainy night scene. Attach the previous output as the reference and restate the identity details in the prompt.

5

How much does Nano Banana 2.1 cost?

40 credits at 1K, 60 at 2K and 130 at 4K, one image per run. The first two reference images are included; each one after that adds 2 credits. Turning on web search adds 10 credits per run. The exact cost is shown before you generate.

6

How fast is it?

Across our eight runs on 8 October 2026 it took 24 to 45 seconds, with a median of 31. The 4K image was the slowest at 45 seconds.

7

Can I use the images commercially?

Yes, images you generate can be used in personal and commercial projects under our terms of service. You remain responsible for prompt content, trademarks, and the rights to any reference images you attach.
