What is Midjourney V8.1 — and what is this page?

Midjourney V8.1 is the current default model from Midjourney, Inc., released on 14 April 2026 — the painterly house style, now better at holding small prompt details. Officially it is sold only as a subscription; this page runs V8.1 through a third-party gateway and charges per generation, so one prompt returns four full-resolution variations for one flat price. CreateVision AI is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Midjourney, Inc.

What you give up is everything tied to an official account: Stealth Mode, personalization profiles, moodboards, the community gallery and the web editor are not part of this integration. And the model has a real weakness — in-image text. Our chalkboard-menu test failed in all four variations; the best one still garbled a word. If the image must contain exact words, use GPT Image 2.

What reviewers say about V8.1

V8.1 is the most usable Midjourney release in two years.

PixVerse — Midjourney review

Every image below comes from nine runs made here on 19 August 2026 — each a first take, no rerolls, with the exact prompt shown. Fast runs returned four images in 13–23 seconds; the one failure we found is shown further down, not hidden.

One prompt, four finished directions

This is the trade Midjourney has always offered, and here it survives the API: a single run returns four separate full-resolution images, not one picture and not a small 2×2 grid you still have to upscale. The four below are the complete, unedited output of one 13-second run. Read them left to right and watch the model re-decide the time of day, the sky and the palette while keeping the brief — cottage, cliff, storm, one lit window — intact in every frame.

Midjourney V8.1 variation one: the cliff cottage in cold blue night light with thick impasto wavesTake 1 of 4 · Standard · 3:2
Midjourney V8.1 variation two: the same brief rendered at violet sunset with golden cloudsTake 2 of 4 · Standard · 3:2
Midjourney V8.1 variation three: the cottage against a golden dawn sky and heavy surfTake 3 of 4 · Standard · 3:2
Midjourney V8.1 variation four: the cottage under a dark storm with an ember-orange break in the cloudsTake 4 of 4 · Standard · 3:2

All four images are the complete output of a single 13-second run — same prompt, no reroll, nothing discarded. One flat price covered all four.

The painterly finish people mean by “the Midjourney look”

Reviewers keep reaching for the same words about V8.1 — cinematic portraits, fantasy environments, mood — and our runs bear it out. None of the prompts below name a palette beyond two colours or give any composition instructions; the restraint, the negative space and the colour discipline are the model's own. That is the reason to pick Midjourney over a prompt-literal model when the brief is a feeling rather than a spec.

Midjourney V8.1 photographic portrait of an elderly fisherman in a hooded oilskin mending a netStandard · 2:3 · from a 15-second run
Midjourney V8.1 second take of the fox print: the fox crossing the bridge under a sky of lanternsStandard · 2:3 · another take from the same run

The two fox prints are takes from one run — the composition changes, the art direction holds. The fisherman is the same model in photographic mode, one prompt later.

Draft mode: a 24-image contact sheet for the price of one run

Draft is the exploration tier: instead of four finished images you get twenty-four 512-pixel sketches from one prompt, at the same flat price as a standard run. Our test run delivered all 24 in 24 seconds. The sketches are small but surprisingly resolved — enough to judge composition, palette and mood — so the workflow is: scout a direction in Draft, then re-run the keeper in Fast at full resolution. Draft is Standard quality only; it cannot be combined with HD.

Midjourney V8.1 draft sketch two: peacock turned toward a full gold moon in dense foliageDraft · 512px · same run
Midjourney V8.1 draft sketch three: peacock with flowing tail lines against a teal panelDraft · 512px · same run

Three of the twenty-four sketches from a single Draft run, shown at actual quality. The full sheet took 24 seconds and cost the same as one Fast run.

Standard or HD — pixels, not polish

The quality toggle is simple and honest: Standard renders at roughly 1.2 megapixels (1344×896 at 3:2 in our runs), HD at four times that (2688×1792). Both takes below are first runs of the same macro prompt. What HD buys is pixel dimensions for print and crop headroom — not a different level of artistry, and not the same picture enlarged: Midjourney re-interprets the prompt on every run, so the two dragonflies differ.

Standard

HD
Midjourney V8.1 HD-quality dragonfly macro at 2688 by 1792 pixels2688×1792 · 21 seconds

Same prompt, both first takes. Because the model re-rolls composition every run, HD is a decision to make before generating — there is no way to re-render an existing take at higher resolution here.

Keep working a result after the run

A finished run is not a dead end. From any of the four results you can request a variation (same idea, repainted), a remix (same image, new prompt), background removal, or a retexture — each a one-click operation on the history card, each returning four new takes. Below, the first take of the lighthouse run and the strong variation we made from it 18 seconds later: house, cliff and lit window survive, the sky and sea get repainted.

The variation was generated from the finished image on the left, not from the text prompt — that is what makes it hold the composition while repainting the weather.

The rest of what we ran — including the failure

The groups above test specific claims. These are the remaining first-take outputs from the same 19 August 2026 session — fantasy environment, food, a second fox, a Draft sketch — plus the chalkboard-menu test that Midjourney V8.1 did not pass. Every prompt is shown exactly as submitted.

Who this Midjourney workspace is for

Each of these maps to something demonstrated above — including the one group who should use a different model.

  • Illustrators and concept artists

The fox prints and the cliff library are one-line prompts with no composition instructions. If your work trades on mood and finish rather than spec-sheet accuracy, this is the model whose defaults are already art-directed.

  • Art directors building mood boards

Four directions per prompt in Fast, twenty-four in Draft. One brief becomes a wall of options in under a minute — then variation and remix turn the keeper into a family of frames.

  • Occasional Midjourney users priced out of a subscription

The official service starts at a monthly plan whether you generate three images or three thousand. Here a run is a fixed credit price, and a month where you create nothing costs nothing extra.

  • Anyone who wants Midjourney inside a bigger toolkit

The same workspace and subscription cover GPT Image 2, Seedream, Nano Banana, Kling and Veo — draft an idea here, restyle or animate it with a sibling model without moving files between services.

  • Not for you: text-heavy design work

Our menu-board test failed in all four takes. If the deliverable is a poster, label or UI mockup where words must be spelled correctly, start with GPT Image 2 instead — its page shows the same kind of test passing.

Credits, reference-image limits, ratio counts and resolution tiers are read from this workspace's own model registry on 19 August 2026 — they describe what you get here, not the vendors' published specifications. Midjourney and GPT Image 2 timings are our own measurements on the test sets shown on each model's page; cells we have not benchmarked say so rather than borrowing a vendor number.

How to use Midjourney online without Discord

Start Generating Images
  1. Open the workspace

Create a free account — no Discord login, no Midjourney subscription, no API key. The generator on this page is already set to Midjourney V8.1.

  2. Write the prompt

Describe subject, style and light — one confident line is often enough. Attach up to 5 reference images if you want to steer from an existing picture, and add your own native flags like --s if you use them.

  3. Pick ratio, speed and quality

Seven aspect ratios, Draft for a 24-sketch contact sheet, Fast for four finished images, HD when you need print-size pixels. The exact credit cost shows before you run.

  4. Choose from four, then keep going

Results land in about 20 seconds. Run a variation or remix on the best take, remove its background, or retexture it — every prompt and parameter stays in history.

Midjourney V8.1 — Frequently Asked Questions

1

Do I need Discord or a Midjourney subscription to use this?

No. Midjourney's own service — on Discord or its web app — requires a paid monthly subscription. This workspace runs Midjourney V8.1 through a third-party API gateway and charges per generation in credits, so you sign in with a normal account and pay only for the runs you make.

2

Is CreateVision AI affiliated with Midjourney?

No. CreateVision AI is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Midjourney, Inc. Midjourney is a trademark of Midjourney, Inc. Access here goes through a third-party API gateway, which is also why official-account features such as Stealth Mode, personalization profiles, moodboards, the community gallery and the web editor are not part of this integration.

3

How many images do I get per generation?

Four separate full-resolution images per Fast run — not a 2×2 grid you have to upscale — or twenty-four 512-pixel sketches per Draft run. Either way one flat price covers the whole run, so comparing directions costs nothing extra.

4

What do Draft, Fast, Standard and HD mean?

Draft and Fast are speed modes: Draft returns 24 low-resolution sketches for exploring, Fast returns 4 finished images. Standard and HD are quality tiers: in our runs Standard rendered about 1.2 megapixels and HD about 4.8. HD only works with Fast — Draft is always Standard. The exact credit cost for any combination shows before you generate.

5

Can Midjourney V8.1 render text inside images?

Not reliably — and we tested it rather than guessing. Our chalkboard-menu prompt asked for a headline, six items and six prices; none of the four takes got everything right, and the best one still scribbled one word and dropped another. Independent reviews report the same weakness. If the image must contain exact words, use GPT Image 2 — its page shows the same kind of test passing.

6

Can I use reference images?

Yes — up to 5 per generation. One rule from the model itself: a single reference image must be accompanied by prompt text, while two or more images can be sent with or without text. References steer style, subject or composition toward your picture.

7

Can I upscale or edit a finished result?

There is no Midjourney upscale operation in this integration — HD is a choice you make before generating. What you can do from any finished result is run a variation, a remix with a new prompt, background removal, or a retexture. For pure enlargement of a finished image, the workspace's separate image upscaler tool handles 2× to 8×.

8

Can I use Midjourney V8.1 images commercially?

Images you generate here can be used in personal and commercial projects under our terms of service. You remain responsible for prompt content, trademarks, likeness rights, and the rights to any reference images you attach.
