References whose text comes through intact

This is the strongest thing we measured. We gave it two images generated earlier on our Nano Banana Pro page — a ceramic tumbler and a skillet cornbread — and asked for one breakfast table containing both. It rebuilt the scene with consistent light, shadows and scale, and it carried the tumbler's wraparound label across correctly: not just the brand line we had asked for originally, but the smaller second line the model itself had invented in that earlier image. To do that it had to read the text off the reference and set it again. One honest miss: we asked for an overhead shot and got a three-quarter angle.

Google Search grounding — what it did not do

Grounding costs 10 credits on top of the image, so we tested it properly rather than describing it. Two reference posters — the five longest rivers, the five tallest buildings — each generated twice, once with grounding on and once off. Every river length, every building height, every city and every ranking was correct in all four images, and the grounded and ungrounded versions agreed on all 20 figures. One of them even printed "Source: Various Geographic Databases", which is not a source. Our reading: grounding is built for information that changes, and this test does not measure that. For facts the model already knows, it is 10 credits for nothing.

21:9, which the cheaper channel does not offer

Our Nano Banana Pro page tops out at 16:9. Here you get 21:9, which is the difference between cropping a website header and composing one. The banner below is a single 21:9 generation: deep receding perspective, one figure small in frame for scale, the studio name set small and correctly spelled in the lower left, and an empty upper half that a headline can actually sit in. Worth knowing: one of our eight submissions came back rejected by the safety filter on a prompt this innocuous. Re-running it unchanged went through, so treat it as occasional noise rather than a rule.

• Anyone merging more than five references

  Fourteen in one pass, against five on the cheaper channel. If your composite needs a product, a person, a location and a set of props all at once, this is the only one of the two that will take them.

• Designers who need 21:9

  Website headers, cinematic stills, wide banners composed rather than cropped. The other channel stops at 16:9.

• Teams rebuilding scenes from existing assets

  Text printed on a reference came through correctly in our tests, including small secondary lines. Useful when packaging or signage has to stay readable through a re-composite.

• People who need genuinely current information in a picture

  Grounding is the reason this channel exists — but our test showed it adds nothing for static facts. Turn it on for things that change, not for things an encyclopedia would tell you.

Credits, reference-image limits, resolutions and ratio counts are read from our own model registry on 18 August 2026 — the ratio counts exclude "auto", which is a setting rather than a ratio. Speeds are our own measurements with the sample size stated. Cells we have not tested say so rather than borrowing a number from a vendor page.
